Introduction to 150 Squadron

150 (City of Oxford) SquadronWelcome to the web site of 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC), the area’s largest and best equipped Cadet Unit. We are a large and friendly squadron run by a dedicated staff team.  Unlike some other youth organisations we have high standards and expect a lot from our cadets… we give a lot in return though… For more information take a look at our prospectus, fill in the joining form or pay us a visit.

Have you got what it takes?

If so we’ll see you on the parade square!

Air Training Corps Aims

ATC LogoWe run and active and demanding program of activities in accordance with the three core aims of the ATC:

  • To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
  • To provide training which will be useful in both the Services and civilian life.
  • To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

A woman is flying a Red Arrow for the first time

Flt Lt Moore RAFEveryone knows the Red Arrows.  The characteristic hawk aircraft in red livery (based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire) are visible at most major air-shows and they are expected to appear at: the British Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Great North Run in Newcastle, and at the London Olympics.  Every year some 30 fast-jet pilots apply to the Red Arrows but only the very best are successful.  This year two new pilots were selected; Flt Lt Ben Plank and Flt Lt Kirsty Moore who will start training in September for a two year tour of duty from 2010 to 2012.

Bavaria Gold DoE Expedition

The whole lot.

When two of our senior cadets achieved their bronze award earlier this year, and were already 17 years old, the wheels in my mind started to turn.  Both Flt Sgt Bentin and Sgt Cockburn were obviously ready for the jump to gold.  Phone calls were made to friends with ML certificates and neighbouring squadrons.
